Three Seasons. Three Moods. One Remarkable Journey.
Rocky Mountaineer travels through Western Canada from spring to autumn. Each season brings its own atmosphere: fresh landscapes and quieter days in spring, long bright summer days in the mountains, or warm colours and crisp air in autumn.

Spring
With snow still resting on the peaks, rivers running high, and nature slowly awakening, Western Canada often reveals a quieter, beautifully clear side.

Summer
Long days, lush mountain landscapes, and the classic travel season for Banff, the Canadian Rockies, and selected extensions through Western Canada.

Autumn
Golden forests, softer light, and snow-dusted peaks give the journey a calm, almost cinematic quality.
Which season is best depends on more than the weather. It also comes down to your route, your preferred pace, and the stays you would like to include before or after your Rocky Mountaineer journey.
Thoughtful Planning
Some details do not need to be decided right away — but they do help shape how Rocky Mountaineer fits into your wider Canada journey.
Do I sleep on the train?
No. Rocky Mountaineer is a daylight rail experience. You spend the days on board and stay in hotels overnight, so you do not miss the most important scenery along the route.
Are meals included on board?
Yes. Included meals are part of the respective itinerary. The style of the culinary experience depends on the service level and travel program selected.
Can I fly onward right after the train journey?
We do not recommend it. Rail travel in North America can occasionally be delayed, so connecting flights or fixed dinner reservations should not be planned for rail travel days.
Which travel direction is better?
Rocky Mountaineer routes are spectacular in either direction. The better choice usually depends on your flights, preferred hotels, cruise dates, and the overall flow of your itinerary.
